I bought this dude about a year ago just in case my Chaos Lord has a bad time with the Chaos Boon Table. He was a slightly damaged closeout from FRPgames.com that cost me like $5.00. I thought it would make a great addition to my army so I spent a few hours the night I got him doing a fancy base with giant worms and a half-buried backpack and a knife stuck into the ground… really elaborate stuff. I finished the base and suddenly didn’t like the model and then utterly failed to muster the gumption to paint him. Something wasn’t right. I lost interest.
He’s been sadly staring at me from atop my workbench for nigh on 12 months now. This week his psychic cries of neglect got to me. I finally decided to make a concerted effort to “fix” and paint him. I stared at him for about an hour on Saturday trying to figure out what I could add to make him interesting again. I just kept staring at the base and ignoring the model. Which sparked a thought.
Turns out the fix was cutting all that elaborate crap off the base. It really just drowned out the model… so much noise spoiling the transmission, as it were. Without all that extra crap it made more sense to look at the model rather than the base. There are detailed skulls all about the base. But, that detail is repetitive and the mind filters that out more often than not, I think.
Lesson learned: Don’t distract the viewers from what you want them to see.
From the beginning I wanted him to look newborn. Pink and new! A fresh, Evil little baby.
I’ve also been Nurgle-ing up some Rhino chassis with my trusted Dremel Stylus. I’m only about 1/3 of the way done with the first one. Here’s some shots of the damage, so far…
I will be repainting these little monsters in the next few months… before the LVO, for sure! I have a whole lot of work left to do on these. Wish me luck.
Happy Bashing!
